Bulk import products and categories

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for using the bulk import feature to create products and categories.

You can create products and categories in bulk by importing their details using a spreadsheet template. This method automatically makes the products available to all stores and sales channels. This guide walks you through the steps of using the bulk-import capability.

  • The bulk-import capability is specifically for creating products and categories only. To update relevant details, refer to the following guides:

Before you begin

Before importing products and categories, ensure you have completed the following tasks:

  • Understand the guidelines for the product structure. D-Store allows you to create products with up to five levels. However, if you plan to sell on food delivery platforms, such as GrabFood and Foodpanda, keep the products no more than three levels. Otherwise, the platforms will truncate the extra levels. The product levels are as follows:

    • Items

      • Choice groups

        • Choices (the third level)

          • Choice groups

            • Choices (the fifth level)

  • Prepare the necessary details for your products and categories. Product images are optional. If you choose not to upload them, the following default image will be applied:

If you want to customize images, it is recommended to name them properly for easier identification, because you need to enter the image names in the corresponding product rows in the spreadsheet. The image requirements are as follows:

Procedures

Take the following steps to import products and categories on D-Store Console:

Step 1: Complete the spreadsheet template

Take the following steps to complete the spreadsheet template:

  1. On D-Store Console, go to Products > Items > Create Item > Bulk Import.

  2. On the bulk-import page, click Download Template to download the template.

  3. Locate and open the spreadsheet template. Then, fill out the product and category details according to the instructions and examples provided in the spreadsheet. For more information on the entry fields, refer to Learn about bulk-import spreadsheet configuration fields.

  4. Ensure to delete the rows that contain examples, and then save the changes.

Step 2: Upload product and category details

Take the following steps to upload the product and category details:

  1. On D-Store Console, go to Products > Items.

  2. (Optional) If your account is associated with more than one organization, specify the target organization in the search area by selecting a proper option in the Organization field and clicking Filter.

  3. Click Create Item > Bulk Import to access the bulk import page.

  4. Select one of the following options and click Click to start:

    • Full Upload: Upload both text details and images of the products and categories.

    • Partial Upload: Upload only text details of the products and categories.

  5. Depending on your choice in the previous step:

    • For a full upload:

    1. Click the gray area with a dashed border, select and upload the product images, and then click Continue.

    2. Click Upload and select the spreadsheet you saved in Step 1.

    3. Wait a few seconds for the file to process. After processing, a popup appears for you to confirm the quantity of the uploaded products and categories.

    • For a partial upload:

Further actions

After importing products and categories, you need to consider the following things:

  • To display products and categories in your stores, you must set up a menu.

  • (Optional) To adjust the item order under a category, refer to Sort items under a category.

  • (Optional) To adjust the choice group order under an item, you can edit Choice Group Settings when editing an item. For more information, refer to Choice group settings.

  • (Optional) To adjust the choice order under a choice group, you can edit Choice Settings when editing a group. For more information, refer to Choice settings.
