Start day

Updated over 11 months ago

This guide explains how to carry out the necessary steps to begin taking orders in the D-Store POS app for a new business day.

The Start Day process is an essential step that must be performed in the D-Store POS app before you start taking orders. This procedure ensures accuracy in cash handling and financial tracking by establishing your opening cash balance. Properly recording this amount helps maintain accountability, track daily cash flow, and ensure accurate reconciliation at the end of your business day.

Cash management options

D-Store POS offers flexible cash management options to suit different business setups:

Connect a cash drawer

When configured, the drawer will automatically open and close based on checkout actions performed in the app, providing a streamlined experience for busy retail and restaurant environments.

Benefits include:

  • Enhanced security for cash storage

  • Detailed cash float adjustment auditing

  • Reduced manual counting errors

Manage cash manually

For more mobile or compact setups such as food trucks, pop-up shops, or hawker stalls, you can manage cash manually using alternative storage methods like a cash box, handbag, or cabinet drawer. The D-Store POS still allows you to track all cash transactions without requiring a connected cash drawer.

Benefits include:

  • Flexibility for businesses with space constraints

  • Lower hardware investment

  • Mobility for portable businesses

Before you begin

Before starting the day, count the total amount of cash you prepare as float and you need to input the amount during the start of day. Your opening float is the cash amount you start with to make change for customers. This typically includes various denominations of bills and coins to ensure you can provide correct change throughout the day.

Start a day

  1. Log in to the D-Store POS App, tap Start Day on the left panel of the Register screen.

  2. On the start day pop-up page, enter your opening float amount, then tap Start Day.

  3. Tap Confirm to complete the process. If you have connected a cash drawer, it will automatically open for you to place your counted cash inside. Else, an alert will appear, reminding you to go to Settings to set up your cash drawer. If you're using a cashless method, you can select Proceed and don't remind me again. On the Register page, you will be able to start taking orders by adding items.
